How We Rated Protect My Car And Endurance Warranties

To give you the most current information, we update our review standards several times each year. Below are more details for what we look for in each rating category:

Industry Standing

Providers are given a high score in this category based on any awards, ratings, or recognitions by trusted warranty evaluators, like Kelley Blue Book, CARFAX, or the Better Business Bureau (BBB). We also consider customer reviews on sites like the BBB and Trustpilot, and how much experience a warranty provider has.

Coverage

Providers that offer several different coverage options are rewarded with a higher score in this category. If a company offers plans with long-term limits and several benefits, its Coverage score increases.

Cost

Providers that offer affordable coverage plans as well as deductible options can expect to see a higher score in the cost category. If these same providers offer discounts, their score will increase.

Transparency

When it comes to this category, if a company offers a money-back guarantee and allows customers to view sample contracts on coverage plan pages, it will receive a high score. Its website also has to be relatively clear and easy to navigate.

Customer Service

Strong customer reviews online bring providers high scores in this category. If a provider has a mobile app and offers an online chat option for customers, its score for customer service will increase as well.

Our research team conducted an extended warranty survey in 2022 that showed 52 percent of respondents considering coverage to matter most when choosing a warranty company. With that in mind, here’s a detailed breakdown of what each provider offers.

Protect My Car Coverage

Protect My Car recently rebranded its three warranty plans – Supreme, Select, and Driveline – into protection plans with these names: Ultimate, Deluxe, and Essential. Contracts are available for different vehicles depending on mileage, and the longest contract can cover your vehicle up to 125,000 miles. Here’s what each plan entails:

  • Ultimate: This vehicle service contract is most similar to a factory warranty, covering nearly everything. The Ultimate plan provides exclusive maintenance benefits for one year. It’s also Protect My Car’s highest form of coverage.
  • Deluxe: Protect My Car’s Deluxe plan covers everything the Essential plan covers in addition to suspension, steering, and brakes. It’s best for average-mileage vehicles.
  • Essential: Essential is for high-mileage cars over 100,000 miles or 20 years of age. In addition to the engine, transmission, drive axle, and transfer case, Essential covers heating, electrical, cooling, and fuel systems. It’s the cheapest plan.

The Supreme plans include a $100 deductible, while the Driveline and Select contracts increase the limit to $200. All three warranty plans include perks such as roadside assistance and rental car reimbursement to assist customers while their vehicles are in a car repair facility.

Endurance Coverage

When comparing Protect My Car vs. Endurance, you will see that Endurance offers more levels of coverage and plan lengths up to eight years or 200,000+ miles. The six Endurance plan options are outlined below.

  • Supreme: An exclusionary coverage similar to a manufacturer’s warranty, this bumper-to-bumper plan only has a very short list of components not covered in the contract
  • Superior: Highest level of stated-component coverage, including most major vehicle system components
  • Secure Plus: Mid-level stated-component plan that’s more extensive than the lower-tier Select Premier and Secure plans, covering steering components
  • Select Premier: Designed for high-mileage vehicles, covering powertrain components as well as the cooling system, electrical components, and fuel delivery components
  • Secure: Most basic and affordable Endurance warranty, providing drivers with powertrain protection for the engine, drivetrain, and transmission
  • EnduranceAdvantage™: Covers mechanical breakdowns and regularly scheduled maintenance, with three levels of coverage available (Prime, Plus, and Preferred)

All Endurance plans include 24/7 roadside assistance, towing services, rental car reimbursement, and a trip interruption allowance. Additionally, Endurance customers receive a free year of enrollment in the Endurance Elite Benefits program, which includes perks such as:

  • Tire repairs and replacements
  • Key fob replacement
  • Up to $1,000 in total loss protection

While both Protect My Car and Endurance offer high-level coverage, Endurance offers more options, lengthier contract terms, and more extensive benefits. Overall, we rated Endurance as the Best Coverage option for a reason.
