Ally Extended Warranty Coverage

Ally’s Premier Protection suite offers consumers four levels of extended warranty coverage. Ally also offers Ally Auto Care® for your maintenance needs, as well as guaranteed asset protection (GAP) coverage, SmartLease® Protect, and various ancillary coverages. Vehicle service contracts are available for standard and hybrid vehicles up to 20 years old. However, you’ll need to get more details from a dealer regarding mileage limits.

In their contracts, Ally specifies that covered repairs and services may be performed at a licensed repair facility of your choice. However, the company strongly recommends that you return to the repair shop at your selling dealership for vehicle service.

Ally Extended Warranty Plans

Ally’s available Premier Protection coverage plans are called Major Guard®, Major Guard EV®, Essential Guard®, and Feature Guard®. Major Guard comes close to a bumper-to-bumper or manufacturer’s warranty, while Essential Guard is a basic powertrain warranty. The Ally website has sample contracts and detailed descriptions of the vehicle repair coverage offered under each plan. Ally Auto Care is a maintenance plan that allows customers to purchase prepaid coverage that protects them from the rising costs of vehicle maintenance. In addition to requiring no deductible, Auto Care maintenance plans are transferable to new owners if you decide to sell your covered vehicle. Available for gasoline, diesel, and hybrid vehicles up to 20 years old, Ally Auto Care plans cover the following maintenance services:

Ally Guaranteed Asset Protection

Ally’s GAP coverage helps to protect your vehicle in the event of a total loss. While your insurance may pay the cash value of your vehicle at the time of loss, it typically won’t cover the outstanding debt you owe. This is where GAP coverage comes in – you’ll have the amount between the cash value of your vehicle and the outstanding balance covered in the event that your vehicle is totaled.

Ally SmartLease Protect

Extra fees for wear and mileage on a vehicle can be an unpleasant surprise awaiting at the end of your lease. Ally SmartLease Protect will cover fees related to:

  • Exterior surface damage
  • Interior and upholstery
  • Tires and wheels
  • Bumpers
  • Glass and light lenses
  • Missing equipment and broken parts

There’s no deductible for this plan, and Ally will cover missing equipment and parts with a value of $150 or less per part. In addition, excess mileage charges up to $400 and dings and dents that are less than $1,000 each will be waived.

Ally Ancillary Coverages

Ally Ancillary coverages, also known as Everyday Protection Products, can provide you personalized extra coverages depending on what you need. Available protection includes:

You can also opt for a Multi Protection bundle, which includes your choice of tire and wheel, dent, windshield, and key protection.

Ally Extended Warranty Benefits

With the exception of rental car reimbursements, all four Ally extended warranties come with the following additional benefits:

  • Roadside assistance: This includes flat tire changes, towing, battery jump, lock-out services, and fuel delivery throughout the U.S. and Canada.
  • Trip interruption: If a covered breakdown occurs 100 miles away from home and your vehicle has to be kept overnight for repairs, Ally will reimburse you to at least partially cover travel and lodging expenses. This benefit is not available in Kansas.
  • Rental reimbursement benefits: All Premier Protection plans offer rental car reimbursement benefits.

If the vehicle is under a factory warranty or powertrain warranty, all of the above perks will apply only for the amount not covered by the warranty.

What Does An Ally Extended Warranty Not Cover?

As is common practice in the industry, none of Ally’s Premier Protection plans offer coverage for rust damage or parts like bumpers, catalytic converters, wheels, lenses, lamp assemblies, charging units for electric/hybrid vehicles, and wear-and-tear items like brake pads. Damage due to misuse, abuse, negligence, natural calamities, improper maintenance, or accidents is also not covered.

How Much Does An Ally Extended Warranty Cost?

Extended car warranty costs depend on the plan you choose, your vehicle’s make, model, and age, and the dealership you purchase the plan from. You can expect the price of your Ally extended warranty to be similar to extended car warranty costs from major providers. In addition to your down payment (for some plans) and regular monthly payments, you can expect your deductible to be $0, $50, $100, or $200.

Since Ally is also an auto lender that works closely with dealerships during the sales process, the cost of the plan can be included in your auto loan if you purchase an Ally warranty from a dealer. However, the final price may be higher because you will likely end up paying interest on it.

Ally Extended Warranty Refund

If you cancel your extended warranty contract with Ally within 60 days of purchase, you will be eligible for a full refund as long as you have not made a claim. If you cancel after 60 days or have filed a claim, you will be refunded a prorated amount minus a $50 cancellation fee.
